In 2002, the company Meribel Alpina decided to build a 14,700 m² high altitude water reservoir to produce artificial snow in winter for the famous French ski resort of Meribel and take advantage of this installation to optimize the golf irrigation in summer. In 2017, they decided to double the capacity of the reservoir. The 15-year-old Firestone GeoGard EPDM geomembrane was still behaving pretty well. Therefore, after making some initial tests, they decided to keep the existing liner and make a connection with the new Firestone GeoGard EPDM membrane.
The 21,000 m² new section is entirely covered with ground to protect the liner from falling objects from the cable car crossing overhead.
